My training and expertise are predominantly in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I also draw from frameworks such as narrative psychology, solution-focused therapy, and positive psychology.
One of the benefits of working in private practice is the freedom to design my approach based on my core values rather than an organization’s constraints.
Here are the values I incorporate with every client:
Safe and Non-Judgmental Space: My number one priority is to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can speak openly about your experiences. Our sessions are confidential, ensuring you feel secure and supported throughout your therapeutic journey.
Personalized Plans - No two people are the same, and we aren't always the same person throughout our lifetime. I can attest firsthand that my goals, beliefs, habits (well, some), and challenges are different from what they were 10 years ago. Therefore, each treatment plan needs to be personalized. In our first meeting, I want to learn about you as an individual—your experiences and the goals you would like to work towards. I also consider your strengths, challenges, preferences, and comfort level.
Evidence-Based - Therapy is an investment of your time, money, and energy, often involving more initial discomfort than you'd prefer. Therefore, it's important to maximize treatment outcomes. To improve the effectiveness of the interventions I share with you, I believe it is my responsibility to be informed by the best available research evidence. I will not ask you to try an intervention that I wouldn't try myself or something that hasn't been rigorously evaluated by experts dedicated to assessing treatment outcomes.
Collaborative - While I can claim expertise in specific skills, therapy approaches, and knowledge of various psychological conditions, you are the expert on your values, preferences, goals, and assessing whether therapy is working. I see myself as your co-pilot—you show me the life you want to move towards, and I'll help with the "how" to get there. I'll work alongside you as you try new behaviors or change perspectives. I'll handpick evidence-based tools that align with your goals, and if you're interested, I'll teach you the skills. Don’t worry, we'll also have time to practice together in the office before you go on your way to practice independently.
Direct: I believe in clear and straightforward communication. I will provide honest feedback and guide you with clarity and purpose.
Often Uses Humor: Therapy doesn’t always have to be serious. I incorporate humor to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, helping to ease the therapeutic process.
Comfortable with Uncertainty: Managing anxiety often involves facing the unknown. I am skilled at helping you navigate uncertainty, an essential skill for reducing anxiety and building resilience.
Encouraging Perspective Shifts: Therapy involves identifying perspectives that are no longer serving you and helping you discover new, healthier viewpoints. This process can lead to profound personal growth and change.
Experienced in Exposure Therapy: With over 15 years of experience, I am highly skilled in exposure therapy. I have helped many people face and overcome their fears, allowing them to lead more fulfilling lives.
If these qualities resonate with what you’re looking for in a therapist, I would be honored to work with you. Contact me today to schedule an appointment and begin your journey towards improved mental health and well-being.
